An advanced introduction to the simulation and hardware implementation of BLDC motor drives

A thorough reference on the simulation and hardware implementation of BLDC motor drives, this book covers recent advances in the control of BLDC motor drives, including intelligent control, sensorless control, torque ripple reduction and hardware implementation. With the guidance of the expert author team, readers will understand the principle, modelling, design and control of BLDC motor drives. The advanced control methods and new achievements of BLDC motor drives, of interest to more advanced readers, are also presented. Focuses on the control of PM brushless DC motors, giving readers the foundations to the topic that they can build on through more advanced reading

  • Systematically guides readers through the subject, introducing basic operational principles before moving on to advanced control algorithms and implementations
  • Covers special issues, such as sensorless control, intelligent control, torque ripple reduction and hardware implementation, which also have applications to other types of motors
  • Includes presentation files with lecture notes and Matlab 7 coding on a companion website for the book
Brushless Motors: Magnetic Design, Performance and Control is an outgrowth of the author's two previous books on this subject. This book contains significant additional material covering further aspects of magnetic design, performance, and electrical control. The primary goal of this book is to meet the needs of working engineers who have little or no experience in electric motor design and control. The book starts with basic concepts, provides intuitive reasoning for them, and gradually builds a set of understandable concepts that foster the development of usable knowledge. This book strives to provide a basis of knowledge that non-experts can use to develop practical expertise, making them more productive in their work and allowing them to productively explore other approaches to motor design, performance, and electrical control.
An Engineering Handbook, DC Motors Speed Controls Servo Systems.
System Control using Embedded systems or DSP kits can by no means match the user friendly nature of the computer. I am interfacing a hardware that is, in my case, a dc motor and is controlling its operational speed through the software. All the processing is done by the computer in Real Time and to introduce changes in the system's performance is just finger tips away. The use of computers in this project has acquired me the ease of control and greater accuracy. The computer is prepared to do the task by having a Red Hat Linux® with a Real-Time kernel installed. The computer ports do the necessary communication with the hardware. The source code running on the computer translates the data input into an instruction executed on the hardware. And the motor speed changes according to the duty cycle entered by the user and according to the need of the application in which the motor is being used. All one needs is some old fashioned computer, a dc motor and some motor drive circuitry to getting started. The whole set up costs a little, is efficient and user friendly. I guess automation has never been dreamed this much easy before.
The fourth book in Delmar's Electricity 1-4 series, Electricity 4: AC/DC Motors, Controls and Maintenance, 7E introduces readers to DC and AC motors, as well as many types of manual, magnetic and electronic controls. Throughout this edition, motors are described in detail enabling the reader to develop a working knowledge of the operations, advantages and disadvantages of each type. A wide variety of controls are also explained to aid understanding, while discussion of AC motors and associated controls helps to develop an appreciation of control schemes applied to various applications of the motors. This edition features new and improved photos and diagrams to better enable readers to tie theory and practice together into real-life situations. Any references to the National Electrical Code? have been updated, and some chapter material has also been rearranged to improve continuity. Specific objectives precede the introduction of each topic, while summaries and quiz items enable readers to measure their progress at the end of each chapter.
Direct current (DC) motors have variable characteristics and are used extensively in variable-speed drives. DC motor can provide a high starting torque and it is also possible to obtain speed control over wide range. Why do we need a seed motor controller? For example, if we have a DC motor in a robot, if we just apply a constant power to each motor on a robot, then the poor robot will never be able to maintain a steady speed. It will go slower over carpet, faster over smooth flooring, slower up hill, faster down hill, etc. So, it is important to make a controller to control the speed of DC motor in desired speed. DC motor plays a significant role in modern industrial. These are several types of applications where the load on the DC motor varies over a speed range. These applications may demand high-speed control accuracy and good dynamic responses. In home applications, washers, dryers and compressors are good example. In automotive, fuel pump control, electronic steering control, engine control and electric vehicle control are good examples of these. In aerospace, there are a number of applications, like centrifuges, pumps, robotic arm controls, gyroscope controls and so on.
Updated to the 2011 National Electrical Code, ELECTRICITY 4: AC/DC MOTORS, CONTROLS, AND MAINTENANCE, 10e delivers practical coverage of the AC/DC motors, controls, and the maintenance portion of electrical theory content. It offers quick access to current information on DC motors, AC motors, motor control, electromechanical and solid-state relays and timers, synchronous motors, installation, sensyn units, motor maintenance, and more. Combining thorough explanations of how systems work with relevant, hands-on examples of electrical system operation, this text will help you develop the troubleshooting skills needed in the field.
Biological immune system (BIS) and Biological Evolutionary system (BES) is a special type of control system that has shown strong robustness and self adaptability. In this work report artificial immune system algorithm and biological evolutionary system used to develop are immune controller and evolutionary controller. The idea of immune controller and evolutionary controller is adopted and derived from biological vertebrate immune and evolutionary system, mimicking and imitating of biological immune and evolutionary system which is better known as the artificial immune and evolutionary system. Immune and Evolutionary are stochastic optimization techniques based on the principle of natural evolution. We describe the general functioning of EAs and BIS. The aim of this subject is to design a speed controller for a DC motor by selection of PID parameters using “Evolutionary and Immune.” These algorithms come under the category of bio-inspired optimization techniques. The model of a DC motor is considered as a second order system for speed control. Here, there is a comparison between conventional tuning methods and optimization techniques of parameters for PID controller.
